The site of Holy Name Hall, a former church hall, built in the early 1960’s on Pennine Road, Cheltenham has received a major transformation to help meet the affordable housing need in the town.
Cheltenham Borough Homes managed the acquisition of the site, from the Diocese in February 2019 on behalf of Cheltenham Borough Council. Architects were able to design eight, two-bedroom affordable houses for rent on the site as part of Cheltenham Borough Council and Cheltenham Borough Homes’ £180m investment in quality homes and thriving communities.
The name Ingleborough Mews came from the fact they are situated on Pennine Road, as Ingleborough is a place located in the Pennine Hills.
Leader of Cheltenham Borough Council, Councillor Rowena Hay, said: ‘’This scheme is excellent news for Cheltenham. It will support the wider housing strategy of the council in meeting future housing needs for our town.”
Councillor Peter Jeffries, cabinet member for housing, Cheltenham Borough Council said: "These properties will become homes for eight families and are one of the exciting steps we are taking to reduce the number of people waiting for affordable homes in Cheltenham. The Council and Cheltenham Borough Homes are working in partnership to facilitate the investment of £180m in quality homes and thriving communities for Cheltenham across multiple tenures, including affordable and private and through multiple opportunities including the Golden Valley project, other land led schemes and acquisitions.”
Steve Slater, Interim CEO, Cheltenham Borough Homes added: "Cheltenham Borough Homes (CBH) and the Borough Council have a shared goal to deliver secure, high quality homes and to build strong, healthy, and inclusive communities. We do this by contributing to the much needed building of housing in the town, but also by supporting the people who live in our homes to fulfil their lives with a range of proactive services that help them to thrive."
The former church hall was demolished in December 2019 and construction commenced in early 2020 with appointed contractor J Harper and Sons. The construction took almost a year to complete with handover of the completed homes taking place in December 2020.
