- Free sessions to help Cheltenham residents put their health and wellbeing first.
- Opportunities to cook healthy meals, enjoy walks outside, gain useful advice on dealing with stress and gentle exercise are just some of the activities people can enjoy
Cheltenham residents can look forward to new opportunities to enhance their health and wellbeing this year, due to the launch of an innovative new project, known as Enrich.
Run by Cheltenham Borough Homes, thanks to funding from Cheltenham Borough Council, the NHS and with support from a network of local partners, this life changing new initiative consists of a series of free sessions, designed to help people lead a healthier lifestyle.
Some of the activities include:
- Cooking and gaining useful advice on healthy meals
- Opportunities for walks outside, making use of Cheltenham’s stunning array of parks and green spaces
- Advice and tips on reducing stress to enhance their wellbeing
- Taking part in gentle movement including; mindful walking, yoga, qigong, dance and tai chi
People of all abilities can take part and the project has been set up to help those who are struggling with the rising costs of living, so they can access the support they need to put their health first. The sessions have also been set up to reduce social isolation, and are a great opportunity for attendees to meet new people and forge new friendships whilst enjoying the free refreshments on offer.
Participants can also enjoy the free Enrich rewards programme where they will earn reward points every time they attend a session. These points can be used on items to help with their health journey and will include water bottles, cooking and exercise equipment.
Cllr Victoria Atherstone, Cheltenham Borough Council cabinet member for housing, said: “Trying to navigate the rising cost of living and the daily stresses that we all face from time to time can mean that we forget to check in with ourselves and put our mental and physical wellbeing first.
I popped in to one of the Enrich classes to experience it for myself and loved it. I attended a session focussed on 'really' noticing and enjoying the beautiful natural world around us, excellent mindfulness food for thought. I can see how beneficial the entire Enrich programme will be, for all who attend and would like to extend my thanks to all organisers.
It's important everyone has the tools they need to put their health and wellbeing first. These classes are playing a pivotal role in breaking down those barriers that can make it harder for people to find the time to live a healthier lifestyle.
I’m delighted the council are playing our part by working with Cheltenham Borough Homes, the NHS and our local partners to deliver these much-needed sessions, providing opportunities that enrich and improve people's lives.”
Caroline Walker, Head of Community Services for Cheltenham Borough Homes added:
“Looking after our health and wellbeing is so important, especially when we’re dealing with the usual stresses that life can bring. This is why we’re committed to making sure that cost isn’t a factor when it comes accessing the support needed to live a happier and healthy lifestyle.
We want to make sure that people and their families have every opportunity to put their health and wellbeing first, which is why our strong working partnership with the council, the NHS and our local partners is so important. Together we are able to change lives and make a difference, so that everyone is able to embrace a positive health and wellbeing journey.”
Sarah Workman, Locality Manager for Cheltenham ILP said: ‘Enrich offers a valuable opportunity for residents to learn valuable new skills to live more healthily and make new friendships through the programme. We look forward to hearing the progress of participants as they complete their Enrich journey.’
Sessions take place every Tuesday 11-1pm at St Marks Church Hall, Church Road, St Marks, GL51 7AL (venue is wheelchair accessible).
