A new school uniform campaign has been launched to help ease the cost of paying for school uniform for the customers of Cheltenham Borough Homes (CBH).
Cheltenham residents are being encouraged to generously donate outgrown or unused school uniform items, sports kit, bags and lunchboxes which can be recycled back into CBH communities in the town. Donations can be made to our donation point at Dunelm Cheltenham. Cheltenham Borough Homes has worked with the store previously for campaigns including the Christmas campaign “Delivering Joy”.
The campaign will run and accept donated items until the end of May, following which a drop-in event will be hosted to recycle the items back into CBH communities. Families in need will be invited to collect items needed to kit out their children ahead of the new school term. Any left-over items will be donated back into the wider community via other schemes.
Items being sought include:
- School polo shirts/shirts
- School trousers/skirts
- Jumpers/Cardigans
- School shoes/trainers
- Unbranded School PE Kits
- School bags/Lunchboxes
Matt Ward, head of housing services for Cheltenham Borough Homes said: “I am so pleased we are introducing this campaign and am grateful to the people of Cheltenham who generously donate their unused school uniform items. The cost of kitting out your child for school soon mounts up and the reality is that there are families who have to make choices between everyday essentials, such as buying food or paying their rent or utilities, to enable them to budget for school uniform items.
“We are committed to helping support parents in need to alleviate some of this pressure and are confident that this campaign will do that."
Lianne Heaps-Warby, benefit and money advice team leader for Cheltenham Borough Homes said: “We launched this campaign to support families who need our help. The costs of having to pay for new uniforms, school bags, PE kit and stationery items soon add up and we are aware that this can cause financial pressures for many families.
“I’m pleased to be leading this campaign and make a real difference to families in our communities who are concerned about budgeting to cover the costs for these items in addition to other everyday essentials.”
It is hoped that eventually this project can be run year-round and open to the wider communities within Cheltenham.
