Plans for an ambitious new scheme to bring 70 affordable new homes to the former Monkscroft School site, are now live and open as part of a public consultation.
Residents are encouraged to view the scheme and offer feedback before the consultation ends on 12 March.
Residents living in very close proximity to the area will receive an invite in the post, containing details and a QR link directly to the online consultation. More information, including the proposed designs and the questionnaire can be found by visiting the dedicated consultation website.
In addition to the online consultation and to gather as much community input as possible into the proposed scheme, there will be an in-person public exhibition on 7 March at Hester’s Way Community Resource Centre. Residents can drop in between 2pm and 8pm on the day, to view displays and chat to members of the team, who will be on hand to answer questions.
The emerging scheme offers 100% affordable housing, consisting of 70 new, shared ownership and social rented properties. There will be a mix of 1, 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-bedroom, energy efficient homes, with access on to the site from Shelley Road and Shakespeare Road. Careful traffic modelling work has been done with the Highways authority and designated car parking has been built into the scheme.
A community growing area, green promenade and a village green will create a place for everyone to enjoy, promoting a sense of community and wellbeing.
Known as ‘biodiversity net gain’, the development will be designed to create and improve natural habitats compared to that offered by the current site. The aim is to meet the requirements using wildflower meadows, trees, hedgerows and eco-friendly landscaping, vastly improving the area.
Cabinet member for major developments and housing delivery, Councillor Peter Jeffries said: “In various locations around Cheltenham, we are working hard and at pace to bring much needed new and affordable homes to local people. We want to get people off waiting lists and into homes they so desperately need.
“This exciting scheme offers a wide-ranging mix of high quality, environmentally friendly properties to suit the different needs of local people and families, on a carefully and thoughtfully designed site.
“It’s important that we gather as much feedback as possible as part of our consultation and I hope that people will take the time to view the plans and share their thoughts.”
